Today I shoot with a Gary Honis full spectrum modified Canon T1i. I use it for everything from astro-imaging to Infra-red, to traditional photography. To make this full spectrum camera do all these things I use several “clip-in” filters from Astronomik that converts the camera to the desired spectrum:
- OWB – Original White Balance for restoring the camera to “factor” behavior
- L UV-IR Block – For Astro imaging in dark sites with little to no light pollution
- CLS-CCD – For Astro imaging in suburban sites with light pollution
- Planet IR Pro 742 – For Infra Red only imaging
As with most DSLR owners I also have a few lenses:
- Canon EF 28-135mm USM
- Canon EF 70-300mm USM
- Canon EFS 18-55mm IS (modified to work with clip in filters)
- Olympus OM Zuiko 30-75mm (full manual lens)
My kit includes a few other goodies like an adapter to let me mount the Olympus lens backward to create a macro lens with the ability to focus as close as 1″ from the subject, a basic flash unit, wired remote intervalometer, A/C battery replacement, and of course the home made “cooler box” to refrigerate the camera when taking astro-images.
